Fishy Claims of Overfishing on the Great Barrier Reef

A broad consensus of academics, administrators, politicians and the general public all widely believe the Great Barrier Reef is threatened by overfishing. However there is no real evidence for that, nor even any sound reason to suspect it might be true. Abundant comparative data shows that fishing pressure on the GBR is so low as to be effectively almost non-existent. How popular belief concerning a significant environmental issue has become so diametrically opposed to the reality is the subject of this analysis.
